01

Ideate & Sketch

Kids can brainstorm several ideas of products they resell, products they invent or create, and services they could perform. After selecting one, the Business Sketch draws out the details about an idea, how viable it is, and if they want to pursue it.

02

Prototype & Feedback

Kids have several places to sketch out their ideas to bring things to life. They can practice getting feedback with helpful scripts to use with potential customers. If feedback is good, they can even get some pre-orders in the process!

03

Refine & Build

It's okay if ideas are let go at this stage, but kids can refine their ideas and go after them. We help organize costs, supplies and give them room to build or buy what they need. This prepares them to set the price and think about marketing and selling.

04

Market & Sell

Where and how you sell your product or service is often where kids need a lot of help. We guide them through questions about location, marketing, packaging, and brand. This phase is where reality sets in about how hard business can be - but some kids thrive with the challenge. Don't forget to track your sales!

Reflect & Grow

It's important for kids to reflect on the experience of building a business. It will reveal which skills are weak and where they need help. They will also find new passions they didn't know they have. Parents or facilitators should encourage kids as they reflect and consider if this business is something to grow or to try something new.

Running a Build a Business Workshop is a fun way to prepare a group of kids for a Kid's Business Fair, or just to launch kids into a summer of business attempts. You might be plugging this into an existing meeting time, or planning something that stands by itself. We are piloting these experiences and would love to help you brainstorm to use the Guide most effectively to prep the students.
